Berry College integrates academic learning with real-world impact through community-engaged courses. These courses, offered in partnership with the Provost’s Office and supported by the Office of Belonging and Community Engagement, allow students to apply their classroom knowledge to real challenges faced by local organizations and communities.
Each year, over 30 Academic Community Engagement (ACE) courses are offered across disciplines. Through service-learning projects, community-based research and reflective practice, students and faculty co-create learning experiences that deepen understanding, foster civic responsibility and support community-identified needs.
Examples of Community-Engaged Courses Include:
ENG 475: Writing and Community
Students collaborate with local partners to produce written materials for community use.
SOC 375: Sociology of Disability
A course that engages students with accessibility advocates and organizations.
SPA 300: Spanish in Context
Students use language skills to support local Spanish-speaking communities.
Opportunities
Whether students are conducting research, mentoring youth or co-creating community events, these courses build leadership, empathy and a lasting connection to Berry’s mission of serving others.
