Ben Rosenbloom ’25 has always been passionate about sports performance. Armed with knowledge in exercise science and sport leadership, he chose to pursue a master’s in sport science at Florida State University after acceptance to six graduate programs.
Ben chose Berry, knowing he was interested in strength and conditioning. Excited to play on the men’s lacrosse team, he hoped to get real-world experience in strength and conditioning with Berry’s Lifeworks program.
Hired as a strength and conditioning coach at Berry, starting with the men’s lacrosse team, Ben soon became the student program director, an experience that shaped his career direction.
“Being program director allowed me to try out different strength and conditioning styles in multiple settings,” says Ben. “Coaches develop team strength and conditioning programming backward, starting with the demands of a sport. I learned to problem-solve and increase sports performance in several settings, reinforcing my love for coaching athletes in the weight room. Now, I try to adjust my coaching to what will work best for each team.”
Beyond his LifeWorks position, Ben says he feels academically prepared for the next step: “At Berry, I was challenged with a comprehensive view of topics within exercise science. I studied with a diverse group of people with a variety of goals, allowing me to gain perspective on the way others see the world.”
He adds that applying his learning in real-world settings set him apart from others who studied only exercise science. The practical application of classroom principles eased his transition to professional settings, including two internships.
“With Architech Sports, I worked with a range of athletes, many of whom were coming off surgeries,” Ben says. “I was responsible for designing programs that would work as a key piece of their return-to-play protocol. I brought in knowledge from my biomechanics class and could manipulate exercises to make them safer and more effective for those recovering from injuries.”
His summer internship with the University of South Carolina was another impactful opportunity. On returning to Berry, he applied techniques he learned to his Lifeworks job.
“Their environment was electric,” says Ben. “The relentless nature of SEC football created a strong sense of community. Most of all, I took away a clear picture of how to effectively manage and run a weight room.”
Still, he would not trade his Berry experience for anything, especially his advisors: “They are why I have such a strong knowledge base that has proven useful in my professional career thus far.”
With this foundation, Ben is ready to face the future while remembering Berry as the place that grew him into a more committed and caring individual. “Berry’s community is a web of people all looking out for one other, whether directly or indirectly,” he notes. “This support system is what makes Berry special.”
