Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Brian Collins is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Berry College Physician Associate Program. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy & Religion with honors at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, in 2007 and his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, in 2016. He completed his Doctor of Medical Science at Shenandoah in 2024.
Dr. Collins has been in clinical practice since 2017, primarily in family practice settings, focusing heavily on caring for those with complex care needs, including multimorbidity and socioeconomic disadvantages. From 2018 through 2024, he worked in a Critical Access setting in rural south-central South Dakota which involved primary and outreach clinic responsibilities in addition to rotating call coverage of the affiliated Level V Trauma Center Emergency Department, Critical Access Hospital, and Long-Term Care Center in collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team. Because of the rural/frontier location and associated logistical challenges to care delivery, Dr. Collins has seen first-hand the value and opportunities associated with telemedicine for primary and specialty care. He also considers it a source of pride that he was able to provide primary care to local US military veterans through the local Community Based Outpatient Clinic as a contracted provider during this time.
Throughout his clinical career, Dr. Collins has been privileged to precept PA students and medical, nurse practitioner, and athletic training students. Each opportunity to guide students toward a successful and rewarding career in the medical field has been a source of joy and refreshment for him. He hopes to impart medical knowledge and skill to all students and the practical wisdom and fundamental value found within such qualities as a strong work ethic, compassion, and a heavy dose of humility. He is both humbled and excited to be able to begin his full-time academic career at Berry College.
